The Story

About the Project.

Bringing cutting-edge spatial technology to the golfing community, entirely free to use.

Why we built this

New Zealand is home to some of the most spectacular golf courses in the world, yet traditional satellite imagery rarely does them justice. Shadows obscure hazards, low-resolution textures hide fairway contours, and outdated maps make pre-round planning a guessing game.

Through Lode Ltd. and our mapping arm at AetherGeo, we set out to solve this. Golf Map NZ was created to provide golfers and course managers with pristine, centimeter-accurate aerial intelligence. No paywalls, no subscriptions—just the best local courses mapped perfectly.

Enterprise RTK Drones

We don't rely on standard consumer drones. By utilizing enterprise hardware with Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning, our aerial surveys pinpoint geographic locations to within a few centimeters, ensuring the distances you measure on screen perfectly match reality.

Photogrammetry & 3D

A single course map is stitched together from thousands of individual high-resolution photographs. Our processing software analyzes overlapping pixels to generate massive 2D orthomosaics and highly immersive 3D digital twins that let you read the topography before you even step on the tee.

Community Supported

Keeping the map free.

Processing 3D spatial data is incredibly computationally heavy, and hosting massive map tilesets for thousands of users incurs monthly API charges from Google and AWS. To keep this tool 100% free and ad-free, we rely on the generosity of local golfers and business sponsors.
